Starch and protein recovery from brewer’s spent grain using hydrothermal pretreatment and their conversion to edible filamentous fungi – A brewery biorefinery concept

چکیده
This study aimed at recovering a highly concentrated starch and protein stream from the brewer’s spent grain (BSG). The effect of pretreatment temperature retention time on solubilization protein; generation fermentation inhibitors were studied. Then, application recovered streams for fungal cultivation was evaluated using different edible fungi Aspergillus oryzae, Neurospora intermedia, Rhizopus delemar. hydrothermal resulted in highest solubilized concentration, 43 g/L, corresponding to 83% initial BSG content. concentration 27 g/L (48% content). Cultivation with intermedia two best conditions, 140 ? 4 h 180 30 min, pure biomass content 59.62% 50.42% w/w, respectively. Finally, brewery biorefinery proposed valorization BSG.

Second Generation Ethanol Production from Brewers’ Spent Grain
Ethanol production from lignocellulosic biomasses raises a global interest because it represents a good alternative to petroleum-derived energies and reduces the food versus fuel conflict generated by first generation ethanol. In this study, alkaline-acid pretreated brewers’ spent grain (BSG) was evaluated for ethanol production after enzymatic hydrolysis with commercial enzymes. The obtained h...
متن کاملSelection of the Strain Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 43121 and Its Application to Brewers' Spent Grain Conversion into Lactic Acid
Six Lactobacillus strains were analyzed to select a bacterium for conversion of brewers' spent grain (BSG) into lactic acid. Among the investigated strains, L. acidophilus ATCC 43121 showed the highest yield of lactic acid production (16.1 g/L after 48 hours) when grown in a synthetic medium. It was then analyzed for its ability to grow on the hydrolysates obtained from BSG after acid-alkaline ...
متن کاملPreparation and Application of Biochar from Brewery`s Spent Grain and Sewage Sludge
Brewery`s spent grain (BSG) and sewage sludge (SS) were used as raw material at the temperature from 400°C to 700 °C and limited oxygen (O2<5%) conditions to prepare biochar (BC). One aim is to examine the BC characterization prepared under different temperatures and various proportions of SS. Another aim is to find the optimum preparation conditions of BC for treating wastewater. Results showe...
متن کاملEnhancing Methane Oxidation in Landfill Cover Using Brewery Spent Grain as Biocover
Landfill gas (LFG) is a potent greenhouse gas (GHG) generated by anaerobic degradation of decomposable municipal solid wastes (MSW). LFG contains (50-60%) of methane (CH4) and (40–50%) carbon dioxide (CO2). If a landfill is neither aerated nor equipped with gas capture systems, the LFG emissions, mainly CH4, in the cover soil is best reduced by using a biocover. Biocovers normally act as a biof...
متن کاملIsolation of polyphenols from spent coffee grounds and silverskin by mild hydrothermal pretreatment.
In this study, a new method for isolation of polyphenols (PP) from spent coffee grounds (SCG) and coffee silverskin (CS) is described. The method consisted of a mild hydrothermal pretreatment at 120°C, for 20 min, using a liquid-to-solid ratio of 20 mL/g. PP (determined as gallic acid equivalents, GAE) were the most abundant components in the extracts produced by this method, corresponding to 3...
